Although it is sized like a standard mid-range flash unit, the Nikon SB 5000 features a host of advanced new features, to help you bring your control of artificial lighting to the next level. Added to the Advanced Wireless System is radio control. This new feature allows you to control multiple flash units from great distances, even when obstacles are blocking the line of sight between units. For this functionality however, you will need the separately available Wireless Remote Adapter and Controller, and compatible DSLR. Optical wireless triggering is available for users who do not have this extra equipment.

As a camera-mounted flash, the Nikon SB 5000 performs excellently, featuring a powerful 34.5m guide number, a broad 24-200mm zoom range, and a versatile bounce head for directing the light output. In a truly unique feature, Nikon have added a cooling system to this unit, which allows it to fire up to 100 consecutive, full-powered flashes, without overheating. With recycle times as quick as 1.8 second, there are not many subjects around that can escape your frame with the SB 5000 mounted to your camera. A range of customisations and high-end modes are at your disposal to get the most out of your SB 5000, but for the beginner wanting just a little extra burst of light every now and then, this unit is incredibly easy to use, as well as being portable enough to slip into the corner of your gadget bag.
